Ovarian Loss in Laparoscopic and Robotic Cystectomy Compared Using Artificial Intelligence Pathology
Contents
The study by Rooma Sinha et al., published in 2024, investigates the effects of laparoscopic and robotic cystectomy on ovarian tissue and follicular loss in patients with endometrioma, using a novel artificial intelligence-powered pathology analysis. Conducted on a total of 28 patients split between laparoscopic and robotic surgery groups, findings suggest that robotic cystectomy may be associated with less ovarian tissue and follicular loss compared to laparoscopic methods, especially in cases of bilateral disease and larger cyst sizes. This pioneering research highlights the potential benefits of robotic assistance in preserving ovarian function during endometrioma cystectomy, calling for further studies to corroborate these findings.
