The article provides a comprehensive examination of whether surgical skills from laparoscopic and open surgeries are transferable to robot-assisted surgery. The meta-analysis included studies that varied significantly in design and methodology but collectively suggested that while laparoscopic skills are transferable to robot-assisted surgery, open surgical skills are not. This finding could influence training programs by emphasizing laparoscopic training for surgeons who will use robotic systems, potentially shortening the learning curve and enhancing surgical proficiency in robot-assisted procedures.
